Beyond the syllabus

Mentoring, alongside the tutoring.

Grades open doors, but knowing which one to walk through is a different skill. Alongside subject tuition, I offer general mentoring drawn from my own experience: getting into Imperial, winning two national scholarships, and mentoring other students through applications and interviews.

University applications & personal statements

Help shaping a personal statement that sounds like the student, not a template: structuring UCAS applications, choosing which experiences to lead with, and honest feedback on drafts.

STEM subject & career guidance

Advice on A-Level subject combinations, engineering vs. other STEM routes, and what STEM careers actually involve day to day.

Interview & scholarship prep

Mock interviews, public speaking coaching, and scholarship application support, drawn from mentoring on a Cambridge summer school and as a Royal Academy of Engineering ambassador.

Cambridge & Imperial entrance exam prep

Support with Cambridge and Imperial engineering admissions tests, on the side of regular tuition. I've been through both myself, so I know the format and where students typically lose easy marks.

Where this comes from

Learned the hard way, so it's easier for your child.

Every one of those came from a competitive written application and an interview, so I know first-hand what selectors are actually looking for. The Cambridge STEM Smart Programme, for example, is a national selection process run by the University of Cambridge. This sits alongside subject tuition rather than replacing it; most families use it in the run-up to a deadline or interview.
